Challenge

Online security can be confusing and intimidating for older adults. The challenge was to communicate real risks clearly and motivate users to act without creating unnecessary fear or cognitive overload.

My role

I worked across product flows, UX/UI, onboarding, reports, marketing funnels, landing pages, payments, upsells, the browser extension, email communication, and visual assets.

Design foundation

Accessibility and senior-friendly design

The design was informed by products and devices created specifically for older adults. Accessibility principles shaped typography, contrast, readability, spacing, visual hierarchy, navigation, and the visibility of important actions.

The interface was designed to reduce cognitive load and make unfamiliar security tasks easier to understand and complete.

UI direction and visual language

We developed a distinct UI direction and illustration style used consistently across the product, reports, landing pages, emails, and educational materials.

Complex security issues were translated into plain language and recognizable situations, such as suspicious messages, exposed accounts, leaked data, unsafe shopping, and identity fraud. Each flow focused on explaining the risk clearly and guiding the user toward the next useful action.

Acquisition and monetization

Conversion funnels and landing pages

I designed and iterated a large number of marketing funnels, landing pages, quizzes, lead capture flows, result screens, payment steps, and post-purchase experiences.

We tested different structures, messages, offers, pricing approaches, and visual directions to understand what worked best for the audience.

Post-purchase offers and upsells

Upsells were an important part of the conversion flows. After purchasing the main product, users could buy additional products and services, including practical guides, consultations, and extended support.

I designed multiple offer formats, layouts, product combinations, and pricing variations.

Product experience

Risk analysis and reports

Reports translated technical findings into readable insights, risk explanations, and recommendations. They helped users understand their level of exposure without requiring technical knowledge.

AI assistant and scam checks

Users could submit a suspicious SMS, email, advertisement, image, or social media post. The AI analyzed the content, highlighted potential signs of fraud, and provided a clear assessment with practical next steps.

Browser extension

We designed, developed, and published a browser extension that brought safety tools directly into everyday browsing. It provided quick checks, warnings, and simple explanations without requiring users to leave the page.

Product evolution

Final product direction

Experiments showed that even a simplified self-service interface required too much interpretation and manual effort from many users.

The final product focused on proactive monitoring and direct support. After the initial setup, the service automatically identified breaches, exposed accounts, and services where passwords might need to be changed.

Users received clear email notifications and recommendations, while the customer support team helped resolve more complex problems. Boundly evolved from a collection of tools into a managed service that performed most monitoring and analysis on the user’s behalf.

Impact & learnings

The main lesson was that simplifying a complex subject does not mean simply removing information. For an older, non-technical audience, clarity depends on context, guided steps, repeated reassurance, and a clear explanation of what happens next.

As the product evolved, we moved away from presenting online safety as a collection of separate tools and toward a more connected, guided experience. The design had to do more than make features easy to use — it also had to build trust and help users feel confident about taking action.
